Thirty Seconds to Mars honors fallen music icons with medley performance

ABC/Randy HolmesThe world has lost a staggering amount of music icons over the past two years, and Thirty Seconds to Mars paid tribute to many of them during an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.

Backed by an acoustic guitar and a sextet of back-up singers, frontman Jared Leto sang a medley including Soundgarden‘s “Black Hole Sun” and Linkin Park‘s “Crawling” in honor of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington, respectively, plus David Bowie‘s “Heroes,” Prince‘s “Purple Rain” and George Michael‘s “Freedom.” You can watch the full performance now on YouTube.

Leto previously honored Cornell and Bennington with a speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.
