Thirty Seconds to Mars, Coldplay win MTV EMAs; U2, The Killers perform

ABC/Randy HolmesThirty Seconds to Mars and Coldplay were both winners at the MTV European Music Awards, held Sunday in London. Jared Leto‘s band took home the prize for Best Alternative, while Chris Martin and company won the Best Rock award.

In his acceptance speech, Leto declared, “We are Americans — a land of immigrants — and we just wanna say that we welcome you with open arms and with open hearts, and we love you.”

Additionally, U2 were honored with the Global Icon award at the show.  They performed their new song “Get Out of Your Own Way,” from their forthcoming album, Songs of Experience.

The Killers also took the stage to play their new single, “The Man.”
