Mark Horton/Getty ImagesMusicians including Axl Rose and Rise Against have criticized Vice President Mike Pence for walking out on an Indianapolis Colts NFL football game after players did not stand for the national anthem. Both artists labeled the trip, which ABC News estimates cost taxpayers nearly $250,000, as a “PR stunt.”
“Thanks [White House] [for] the $200k Colts game PR stunt,” Rose tweeted.
Rise Against wrote, “Dear @mike_pence, please fly out to a @riseagainst show also, we will provide many opportunities for you to walk out as you continue to confuse the issue of police brutality and American racism while you hide behind the military. #PRstunt #copout #TakeAKnee #FaceTheMusic”
In a statement after leaving the game, Pence said, “I left today’s Colts game because President Trump and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.”
