My Chemical Romance “will always be there for us if we want it,” says Gerard Way

Courtesy of WBRIt’s been four years since My Chemical Romance broke up, and if you’re one of the many people upset about having to say so long and goodnight to the band, Gerard Way is leaving the reunion door open.

“I think My Chem will always be there for us if we want it,” Way tells the U.K.’s iNews. But while a reunion is possible, Way doesn’t necessarily think one is likely.

“It adds a layer of stress,” Way says of MCR. “When something gets really big like that, it’s hard on you for many reasons, and it’s very stressful, so I wouldn’t want to disrupt anybody’s life right now.”

Way reveals that the MCR members did reunite recently, but not for music reasons.

“We all got together recently and it was wonderful — we didn’t even talk about the band or playing shows again,” says Way. “I don’t know if anything will happen in the future, but what I do know is everyone has a really great life right now.”

Way previously said in an interview that he “wouldn’t count [a reunion] out,” but that “everybody’s doing stuff in their lives now that they’re really enjoying.”

You can wait for a potential My Chemical Romance reunion while watching Way’s live action The Umbrella Academy TV show, based on his own comic book series. The show will premiere on Netflix in 2018.
